Peer Youth Advisor
The Youth and Young Adult Team at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is hiring two youth between the ages of 16-20. These two part time positions will work in partnership with staff, youth-serving organizations, and other young people from the community. The focus of the work includes, but is not limited to, Youth Sexual Health and Colorado 9to25 projects.
These two projects bring together the many systems that impact youth with the goal of working together to help improve the lives of young people. We believe that young people have an expertise in the lives of youth and youth culture and by having them as a part of our team; we will improve the programs and policies that affect the lives of ALL of Colorado’s youth. This employment opportunity is limited to two full years and includes salaried pay, and paid benefits, such as paid holiday leave, sick leave, and health insurance.
If selected, you will have the opportunity to share your skills with various state and community leaders to help improve the opportunities and outcomes of young people statewide. There will be strong support from staff to develop your own skills so that you can provide support and training to team members and assist them in achieving goals related to youth health and well-being. This includes, but is not limited to, participating on the Youth Sexual Health and Colorado 9to25 leadership teams; developing and coordinating the Colorado Youth Sexual Health and Colorado 9to25 Networks; creating and hosting presentations and learning opportunities for local public health agencies; supporting the development and implementation of state and local policies; and increasing the youth-friendliness of family planning clinics and school-based health centers.
Employment Type: Part Time (20 hours per week) FLSA status: Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)
Job Location: 4300 Cherry Creek Drive S., Denver, CO
Salary: $975 - $1,410 per month. Pay based on applicable experience and will be determined at appointment.

SHOULD YOU BE SELECTED FOR THESE POSITIONS, YOU MUST AGREE TO THESE CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT…

2. You must be willing to work 20 hours per week at our campus, located in Cherry Creek North, between the hours of 8-5, and Monday through Friday. Actual schedules will be determined if you are offered the job.

WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT…
After the closing date of this announcement, everything you submit will be reviewed by a group of subject matter experts consisting of staff members and youth who with then determine the top group (10-20) of qualified applicants. That top group will then be invited to participate in a formal interview process with a different set of individuals. They will determine who is best fit and make job offers. The two individuals that are selected will then be required to attend a New Employee Orientation and complete payroll and Human Resources forms.
MORE ABOUT THE YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT TEAM…
The Youth and Young Adult Team is located in the Population and Community Health Unit in the Children, Youth and Families Branch, within the Colorado Department of Health and Environment.
The team plans, designs, implements, and evaluates public health interventions with a goal of maximizing the health and well-being of all Colorado youth and young adults. Special emphasis is placed on evidence-based practices (for example positive youth development, including youth-adult partnership), data-based decision-making, training/technical assistance; community partnerships, and integration of various program efforts to assure that health outcomes are maximized.
