heck out this video by youth on youth/young adult centered care.

by co9to25
Colleagues at the University of Michigan’s Adolescent Health Initiative and their Teen Advisory Council just sent out a newly released YouTube video about youth perspectives-recommendation on creating youth/young adult-centered health care.
For those of you whose Title V/MCH program have chosen the adolescent/young adult well visit as the Title V Block grant youth-focused national performance-measure - this could be a great tool to share widely, start conversations, think about what needs to change/shift/improve/refine. It’s a great evidence of the power of youth leaders being involved in this work. And pay attention to who one of the funders/supporters of this effort is. Lots of food for thought with this resource!!

AHI invites you to view our latest youth-driven video collaboration: “Drawing a Picture: Adolescent Centered Medical Homes”.

This video was made possible through the generous support of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Thank you to our Teen Advisory Council for their hard work on this project!

Please feel free to share with your colleagues and friends.

Public Health Encourages Participation in International Walk to School Day

by co9to25

Jefferson County Public Health(JCPH) encourages parents and children around the county to join in a country-wide effort to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 7, 2015. This fun walking or biking event promotes safe routes to school and emphasizes the physical, mental and environmental health benefits of walking or bicycling to school.

The event works by getting teams at schools to organize walking school buses and bike trains that promote and facilitate walking and bicycling to school. The teams work with local officials, parents, and school children to map safer routes to school by painting cross walks, removing debris from sidewalks, and having adults accompany groups of children on their journey to and from school. The program also includes bicycle and pedestrian safety education to teach children the skills they need to stay safe around traffic.

Walking or bicycling to and from school can be a first step to changing community culture and creating environments that are more inviting for everyone, young and old. Here are some reasons to support walking and bicycling to school:

  • Enhance the health of kids. Increased physical activity can combat a host of health problems facing kids today.
  • Improve air quality. Replacing car trips to school with walking or bicycling can help reduce air pollution.
  • Create safer routes for walking and bicycling. Sidewalks, education programs and traffic calming measures are some of the ways to improve conditions for young students.

Information on Walk to School Day is also available at www.walkbiketoschool.org.

Here’s your invitation to Transforming Leadership Worldwide. The conference will be held on the Auraria Campus October 7th – 10th.

by co9to25

I recently wrote a book based on my seven years working around the planet as Global Leadership Development Specialist to the World Assembly Of Youth. I discovered there is a great transformation of societal structure taking place everywhere that will affect all of us in the next 10 years, particularly our young people. Some of these changes include:
  • The Internet of Everything — where new kinds of jobs and income earning potential are emerging that our young people may not know about.
  • Collaborative Commons — where business and social groups around the world are working together online to create mutually benefitting enterprises.
  • The Sharing Economy — where businesses are being designed to make sure everyone can have access without incurring traditional debt.
  • Ubuntu As A World Philosophy — where valuing our global connectedness is becoming the key to personal and community success.
  • Massive Open Online Classrooms —- where everyone with an online connection now has access to world class education.
I list 45 of these trends in my new book Above And Beyond All That We Know: How To Thrive And Succeed In The Current Paradigm Shift. My particular concern is that the discussion on the world shift is not taking place among young people here in the United States in general and young people of color in particular. This puts our children at tremendous risk as well as our communities. Because of recent tensions around the country, we must now talk about a new direction beyond protests, marches and rallies. We can actually empower young people to get in on the ground floor of a new kind world that is emerging as we speak. A world that they will lead.
My friend and founder of the Denver Center for International Studies, Dr. Dan Lutz, is collaborating with me to host an international conference called Transforming Leadership Worldwide. The conference will be held on the Auraria Campus October 7th – 10th. It will feature collaborative presentations with young leaders from around the world with students at DCIS on projects ranging from Indigenous Wisdom In The Modern World to Social Entrepreneurship to Feminine Principle Leadership. You can find out more at www.leadtheshift.com .
I’d like to personally invite you to the opening night ceremony to be held at the Adirondacks at 7:00pm in the Tivoli Center. Hors-d’oeuvre and refreshments will be served. This is the kick off to a campaign where I will be doing workshops with 25 youth groups and schools around the Denver metro area about these world changes and how they can prepare best for them. I am bringing my global experiences back home.
If you feel so inclined to help us support the travel and expenses of those coming to Denver for this conference from as far away as Nigeria, Yemen, Cambodia and Nepal, please click here http://www.leadtheshift.com/sign-up-now.html For everyone that supports our effort, I’ll send you a downloadable audio version of my book Above And Beyond. If you can’t make the contribution, please come to the event just the same. The subject matter is too important for us not to get in front of.
Please write back to RSVP and be sure to bring a companion that is working with young people in our community to see how we can support their successful efforts.
Help us make our young people — all of our young people – global citizens and champions of a new way forward.
