As we celebrate Black History Month, did you know that youth played an instrumental role in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s?

We’d add Barbara Rose Johns to this list. She led a student protest at Moton High School in Farmville, Virginia. Later, a lawsuit file on the students’ behalf by the NAACP became part of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case. As the only part of the case initiated by student protest, it is seen by some as the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement.
