More amazing Job opportunities for youth, well paid too!

by co9to25

Attached are jobs for youth at Groundwork Denver, in case you know any youth looking for employment. Thanks.

Mission

The mission of Groundwork Denver is to bring about the sustained improvement of the physical environment and promote health and well-being through community-based partnerships and action. Our goals include:

To create collaborations among community and non-profit organizations, local government, businesses, and residents to improve the physical environment, while enhancing neighborhood assets and fostering community involvement and leadership.

To foster environmental justice by providing expertise and education on environmental health issues, providing opportunities for residents to develop environmental leadership and job skills, and improving the physical environment in low-income communities.

How We Carry Out Our Mission

We are “doers” not “talkers”. We plant trees, we clean up rivers, we build trails and sidewalks, we fix-up and give away bikes, we insulate houses, and we coordinate thousands of volunteers to help.

History

Groundwork Denver was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in October 2002 as an independent organization in the Groundwork USA network.

Groundwork Denver was created in response to a feasibility study that found that while much of the City of Denver is known for its parks and well-maintained streetscapes, there are neighborhoods without the resources to develop this level of infrastructure.

A study of existing organizations found that Groundwork Denver could fill a critical niche to engage residents in the planning process, and implement real, tangible neighborhood-based projects that improve the physical environment. Since its inception, Groundwork Denver has focused on building partnerships and providing support to the diversity of Denver residents who want to improve their neighborhoods through community involvement and civic engagement.

Unlike other environmentally-focused organizations, Groundwork Denver builds partnerships to deliver programs and resources that help lower-income communities to not only make a wide range of environmental improvements, but also to build diverse community involvement, and develop leadership and job skills.

In 2011, GWD was awarded the Outstanding Non-profit Award from the Governor’s Commission on Community Service. In 2012, our state-wide service learning program – Take Charge! – was awarded the Environmental Education Award for Excellence by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education.

MBK 25 2016 Honorees

by co9to25

Since the launch of the My Brother’s Keeper Initiative by the White House, and the acceptance of the MBK Community Challenge by the City of Denver, the Office of Children’s Affairs and City of Denver have recognized that this work has been being done by amazing individuals and organizations in Denver. We felt it was important these individuals and organizations were recognized.

In March the Office of Children’s Affairs sent out a request to the Denver community for nominations of individuals and/or organizations that have been working to assure that boys and young men of color maximize their potential. The community responded with nominations from across different sectors of the different community. The nominations were reviewed and the inaugural MBK 25 was chosen. This past weekend this group was recognized at a luncheon by Mayor Hancock for their work. We would like to congratulate the inaugural MBK 25 and thank them for their commitment and continuous effort to assure that boys and young men of color are able to maximize their potential. Congratulations!
