I. PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
The Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC) is a non-profit organization that provides medical, behavioral health, victim assistance, adult education, interpretation and translation, youth programs to the Asian Pacific Islander refugee and immigrant communities in Colorado. It is the mission of the Asian Pacific Development Center to advance the well-being and health of the Asian American Pacific Islander Community of Colorado by providing culturally appropriate and integrated medical, behavioral, and related services.
The Youth Leadership Academy™ of APDC has three components: tutoring, mentoring and leadership development. The YLA™ focuses on youth development, academic enhancement and leadership. We are looking for a dynamic individual who can recruit, supervise, train and track adult mentors and youth mentees.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Youth Mentor Supervisor will be responsible for curriculum planning and direct services with adult mentors and students in the program. He/she will assist the Program Coordinator in program development, coordination and capacity building.
Responsible for the following duties:
• Will ensure that TGYS grant stipulations are followed and met in a timely manner
• Recruit and train adult mentors
• Provide supervision of adult mentors and youth
• Track youth progression
• Train adult mentors
• Plan and implement regularly scheduled activities/meetings for mentors and youth
• Establish a trusting and supportive relationship between mentors and youth
• Maintain program consistency in setting limits and providing structure for youth
• Facilitate youth-mentor-bonding
• Attend scheduled meetings with Program Coordinator as needed
• Provide regular information and feedback to Program Coordinator
• Develop a comprehensive itinerary for adult mentors and youth
• Create a healthy, accepting atmosphere where the adolescents can experience success and receive positive reinforcement
• Attend required training as instructed
• Submit monthly report to the Program Coordinator
In addition to the above duties, the person will also work as a team with the Program Coordinator to perform the following duties:
• Organize the daily program operations to meet the goals for each deliverable.
• Recruit students as well as volunteers as needed.
• Screen, coordinate and monitor volunteers (background checks).
• Assist with other YLA tracks/locations as requested (i.e. - Leadership Track workshops/ camps and tutoring @ APDC HQ)
III. SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS
• A Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field is preferred
• Previous experience working with youth a must
• Knowledge of the Aurora and Denver County community a plus
• Demonstrated effectiveness in working with adults, youth, parents/community
• Excellent communication/interpersonal and organizational skills
• Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license
• Candidates must submit to the criminal background checks
• Energetic, patient and sensitive to youths’ needs
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and ability to work with multi-ethnic, multi-lingual populations
• Demonstrated flexibilities and reliabilities
• Available to work 25% - 30% of weekends in a month as needed
• Available to attend banquets and other company functions
