For the past several years, Healthy Teen Network’s annual conference has been expanding the conversation of supporting healthy youth, including teen parents, through the use of evidence-based and proven effective interventions, to include innovation, collaboration, and synergy. Building on this, we now seek real life examples of how communities, agencies, and individuals have worked across disciplines to better support their populations.

Healthy Teen Network’s Annual Awards Program recognizes programs, groups, and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to promote the health and well-being of youth through personal or professional efforts. Awards will be presented during Youth 360°: How & Where Youth Live, Learn, and Play Matters. Award nominations and supporting materials are due April 30, 2015.

Outstanding Teen Parent
This award is presented to a former teen parent, male or female, who has overcome the obstacles of early parenting to achieve extraordinary personal and/or professional success. Typically, this person is self-sufficient and demonstrates outstanding leadership in achieving community or career goals. Nominees may or may not be current members of Healthy Teen Network

Outstanding Emerging Innovation
This award is presented to a program in existence for fewer than three (3) years. The award-winning program is comprehensive in scope, innovative, linked with other appropriate public or private agencies, and could be replicated in other areas.

Who are we?

Stepping up for Our Communities is an annual event celebrating Children’s Mental Health Awareness month in May. Last year, over 350 individuals are trained in Mental Health First Aid. You can view more information bout MHFA at www.mhfaco.org

What are the guidelines?

 Design a logo which reflects mental health in a positive manner.. We wish to celebrate the community which assists a young person and that hope and recovery are possible!

 Contestants can use graphic design or other art mediums

The winning art will be used as the logo for the event and be seen by thousands of individuals. Runner up art will be presented at the event as well.

What is the Scholarship?

Forward Steps helps Colorado youth transition from foster care to success by investing in their development, well-being, and breaking their dependency on social support. As a dedicated resource, we make a strong commitment to collaborate with each and every student, providing an individual focused program that stresses post-secondary education. We do this by offering the Forward Steps Guardian Scholars Scholarship for emancipated foster youth in Colorado. The scholarship is for the unmet financial needs of up to $6,000 per academic year.

What are the eligibility requirements?

By investing in their lives, Forward Steps empowers former foster youth so they can reach their full potential as active, independent, self-sufficient members of their communities. It’s our mission.

To be and or remain eligible our scholars will meet the following expectations:

  • Enroll and remain a student in good standing
  • Enroll and maintain at least 12 credit hours each semester
  • Achieve and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA each semester
  • Participate fully in all aspects of the scholarship (meetings, mentoring, events, etc.)
  • Approve of Forward Steps staff monitoring academic performance and college records
  • Apply yearly for the scholarship

If you are interested in applying, please complete the application, and mail it with the required supporting documents by Friday June 27, 2014.

How do I apply?

Following is the application, including a checklist of required documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Join Us As We Innovate For Good In 2015

Rose Community Foundation is launching a new and exciting project called Innovate for Good - a challenge designed to find and fund new ideas to make the Greater Denver community a better place to live.

Innovate for Good will award up to 10 grants totaling $250,000 to fund projects that answer the following question: What new and innovative idea would you bring to life to make the Greater Denver community a better place to live?

 

Ideas should reflect creative, new approaches and should be able to make a positive, measurable difference within one year. Ideas and proposals will be reviewed by Rose Community Foundation and a committee of community members from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions. Nearly anyone can submit an idea to be considered for funding - artists, engineers, nonprofits, neighborhood associations, teenagers, retirees - you name it. We have a very simple online application, and finalists will be invited to pitch their ideas at our 20th Anniversary celebration in early June.

We hope you can help spread the word about this exciting new project and consider submitting an idea yourself! You can find the latest information on our website. We will also be posting updates and reminders on our Facebook page. You can read our news release about this new project here.

Announcing The 2015 Douglas County Youth Initiative’s Outstanding Youth Awards!

This event, hosted by the Douglas County Youth Initiative, celebrates, recognizes and honors Douglas County youth aged 13-19 who have overcome, or overcoming, some type of adversity and who have created positive change in their lives. The awards program will provide businesses, the community-at-large and civic leaders an opportunity to demonstrate their belief and support of young people in our community.

The Douglas County Outstanding Youth Awards will focus on teenagers who have triumphed over great odds and who serve as inspirations and role models, as so many do!

If you know young people who would be good candidates for the Youth Award, please help us identify them by completing the attached nomination form. (Also, please pass this email on to others who may know a candidate.)

Mission of the Youth Award:

To identify and recognize 10 teenagers, 13-19, who reside in Douglas County, who have overcome obstacles and risen to challenges life has presented.

I am excited to announce that the Andrus Family Fund is now accepting Letters of Inquiry(LOIs) for our May 2015 grant cycle. The Andrus Family Fund fosters just and sustainable change in the United States. We do this by supporting organizations that advance social justice and improve outcomes for vulnerable youth ages 16-24. Our work is guided by a strong commitment to social and racial equity. We envision a just society in which vulnerable youth have more than one opportunity for a good life and thus are looking to partner with organizations in the United States that make the connections that our most vulnerable young people need to live long and successful lives.

Therefore we invite innovative and bold organizations that provide and deliver high quality direct services which are developmentally and culturally appropriate for older youth to be successful and thrive. Yet because we know that this can’t all happen at the individual level we are also supporting national and local organizations that are working to make sure communities are equipped with the tools and knowledge to advocate for policies that support the well-being of our most vulnerable young people and their communities. As we embark on our new strategy we want to make sure that we are keeping true to the voice of those most impacted by unjust systems and policies. We will continue to partner with organizations and groups that are actively and authentically organizing communities to be at the center of the change they seek for their families and their communities. We believe that through these systemic changes a more stable and just environment can be created.
