Meet Cassandra…
My name is Cassandra and I’m a senior in high school.
What area of Colorado are you from?
I’m from the Boulder area.
How long have you been with SPLAT?
I’ve been a SPLAT member for almost a year now.
Why did you join SPLAT?
I got connected with the SPLAT team through another leadership council I’m on called Rise Above Colorado, which I’ve been a part of for 2 years now.
What is your favorite hobby outside of SPLAT?
I love singing and writing my own songs, and I love music in general. I also like to go camping and fishing. I play tennis and enjoy playing basketball on my free time. I love helping others in any way I can, and just being a friendly and bubbly person! I like hanging out with friends, and going on social media! Also, I can not forget shopping and doing my makeup!
Why are Youth-adult partnerships important to you?
They make me feel like youth have a voice and are important, unlike other norms where “children are meant to be seen, but not heard”. It’s really important to have someone look at you with high standards. I feel like by being part of a youth and adult team, I have a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, as I speak for not just me, but for all teens. It’s great to know you’re doing something good and positive, and getting so much work done! It’s very good experience for life in general, as well as getting a job!
How are you connected and contributing?
I love to stay connected in my community by going to events and engaging in lively conversations. By being a part of sports, clubs at school, and Leadership Teams outside of school, I’m contributing!
How do you picture youth being more involved in the world?
If it were my way, youth would be caring and kind to one another at all times. You can not be a part of something greater , if you can not work with others . If youth were to work together, there would be endless possibilities. Also, if youth were not so involved with technology. Having a head in a cell phone takes away from the world. It’s important youth know what’s going on around them, are involved in their community, and have friends.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I would want to go to Italy. It’s such a beautiful setting as well as cultural learning experience!
If you were a piece of pizza and had to be eaten by one celebrity of choice, who would you want to be eaten by?
Joseph Gordon Levitt! He is wonderful. My favorite for sure!
If you could make any animal large enough to ride, which would you choose?
Hmm, a bird! I would be able to fly around like a velociraptor.
If you could be any superhero, who would you be?
I would be Superman, because he is genuine. Also because I was able to be Superman for a day once in my life.
What superpower would you have?
I would want to be able to control others emotions . While giving bad news, you could make it easier, and cheering up friends. Also, everyone would be like “every time Cassandra’s around, I feel super happy” and they wouldn’t even know!
If you were a historical painting, which would you be, and why?
I would be Starry Night. The colors are very cool toned and dark, and the stars are very bright. To me this symbolizes weakness and strengths (bright stars) as a human being. No matter what, it’s beautiful.
What is your favorite dessert?
Chocolate. Anything chocolate. Or cupcakes.
What smell makes you think of home?
Laundry detergent. That may sound really weird, but at home we’re constantly doing laundry because of us girls! So when I walk past a laundromat, or get a whiff of someone walking by, I’m immediately brought back!
What’s your favorite pun?
I’d rather not taco bout it.
