Its time for the FAFSA
from Bravetracks
What time is it, seniors? It’s FAFSA time! FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Financial Aid. FAFSA allows students to apply for more than $150 billion in grants, loans, and work-study funds. We encourage you to check out this easy-to-follow video for info about the FAFSA and the resources available to help fill out this important application. Don’t stress! According to experienced FAFSA-filler-outers, completing the application shouldn’t take more than an hour once you have gathered the necessary documents. The FAFSA is available at fafsa.ed.gov. You will need a personal identification number (PIN) to access the form. Get one at pin.edu.gov. Visit StudentAid.gov/fafsa to learn more about completing the form. But first watch the video.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind:
*Be sure to visit the websites of each college and university to which you are applying to find out the specific financial aid and FAFSA deadline, as it varies from one institution to another.
*Ask your high school counseling office if it is planning to hold a ”FAFSA Night” where parents and students receive guidance on completing the FAFSA form.
*Consider attending “College Goal Sunday” on February 9, 2014! College Goal Sunday is an opportunity for students and parents to get free help in filling out the FAFSA. For more information, contact Natalie High, CGS Statewide Coordinator, at Natalie.High@colorado.edu.
