Juvenile Assessment Center finds ways to reach more kids who need help
The Juvenile Assessment Centerhas been serving young people and families in need in Douglas, Arapahoe, Elbert and Lincoln counties for 15 years, but aside from those who have come in direct contact with the nonprofit, there is a fair chance many have never heard of it.
Thanks to a recently launched partnership with Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch, and a soon-to-open new facility in Centennial, the center is striving to spread the word and connect more youth facing difficult situations with services that can help them.
The center, often referred to as the JAC, is based in the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, 7375 S. Potomac St. It provides screenings and behavioral assessments for youth ages 10 to 17, working to ascertain the emotional, social and behavioral needs of kids who are often facing trouble with the law, drug addiction or other issues, staff members say. Following the assessment, staff works to connect the youth and his or her family with free support services.
